6 year old Virginia boy crashes family car | Bellevue car crash attorney

Here's a story of a 6-year-old Virginia boy who was so intent on getting to school after he missed his school bus that he decided to drive himself there with the family car.  He grabbed the keys from the house and started driving and made it to within a mile and a half of the school before running off the road into an embankment and crashing into a pole.  He only suffered minor injuries but the parents were slapped with child endangerment charges.

The mother, Jacqulyn Deana Waltman, 26, was arrested and is being held without bond.  The father, David Eugene Dodson, 40, was released on a $5,000 bond.  The really sad part of this story is that the boy and his 4-year-old brother were placed in protective custody in addition to the parents being arrested.

Not much was said in the news article about the parents' history or what they were doing at the time the boy was driving off with the car, but it seems to be a harsh punishment and a harsh result for the family.  Just a reminder to all parents to keep the keys in a safe place where the kids can't get a hold of them.  The boy apparently learned how to drive by playing video games.  Lord only knows what other things 6 year olds can learn from computers these days.
