A 26-year-old Auburn woman was killed early Saturday morning February 7, 2009 around 3:20 a.m. when the car in which she was riding left southbound Interstate 5 near the Highway 18 interchange and hit some trees. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another occupant of the car, a 35-year-old Tacoma man, was taken to Harborview Medical Center with unspecified injuries. It wasn't immediately clear who was driving the car according to Washington State Patrol.
The police investigation report will be crucial in this case to determine who was driving and at fault and who was the passenger who may have a claim for injuries or wrongful death if it is determined that the woman was the passenger. Apparently, the bodies were were either thrown from the vehicle and/or not seat-belted in their final resting positions. However, a final determination of each person's seating position may never be conclusively made.
