Bus crash injures track team on Highway 520 | Bellevue bus accident attorney

Two buses carrying about 75 athletes and coaches from the Eastern Washington University track team were in a bus accident after a car going westbound on Highway 520 cut off the first bus forcing it to brake. The second bus couldn't stop in time and rear-ended the first bus.

The accident occurred on Highway 520, just east of 84th Avenue Northeast in Bellevue. Four people were taken to local hospitals for injuries. According to the Washington State Patrol, the driver of the car fled the scene but later crashed into a barrier at midspan of the 520 bridge. The driver was being investigated on suspicion of DUI.

The obvious at fault driver in this bus crash was the drunk driver but the second bus driver may also be partially at fault for following too close (to the other bus in front). The following vehicle has a duty to maintain a safe distance and to be able to stop even in an emergency situation like this one.
