78-year-old John M. Cook of Sequim, Washington was seriously injured when his light airplane crashed during takeoff from Jefferson County International Airport on April 9, 2009. A wind gust caught a wing of the two-passenger, single-engine Light Sport by Remos causing it to flip over and corkscrew into the grass next to the runway.
Cook sustained serious injuries including broken bones and cuts to his face and was flown by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the plane accident.
