An Injured Anterior Cruciate Ligament May Require Expensive Treatment

You were picking up a few items at Pacific Place when your foot became caught in a hole in a carpet. Your leg twisted and you landed on the ground, but not before you heard a loud “pop.” Your right knee began hurting immediately. You visited the emergency room at First Hill and an MRI revealed you had torn your anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

The ACL is a large ligament in your knee that provides support. Damage to the ligament can range from something mild like a small tear, to a major injury in which the ligament is completely torn in two. Treatment depends on the severity of the injury.

Your Treatment Options

After visiting an orthopedic surgeon, you were told a few treatment options were available, including:

  • No treatment. If you decide not to have your knee repaired, your knee will feel unstable and your bones will likely end up rubbing together in the future, which is extremely painful.
  • Rehabilitation. Minor ACL tears may heal with the help of a physical therapy program. Performing certain exercises may help build back strength in your knee and repair the damage.
  • Stem cell injection. A fairly new and somewhat controversial treatment, stem cells may be able to help your ligament repair itself. In this treatment, doctors extract stem cells from other parts of your body and then inject them into the damaged part of your knee. The cells may help to repair the damage.
  • Surgery. ACLs that suffer severe damage often require surgery to reconstruct the ligament and other parts of the knee that may have been injured in the accident.

Treatment Helps, But Is Extremely Costly

You wouldn’t need the expensive, painful, and time-consuming treatment if it weren’t for the negligence of the store, so why should you be held responsible for the costs? The Andrew Kim Law Firm wants to help you attempt to recover compensation for your slip and fall accident. Contact us today to learn how.
