According to U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters, the number of people killed in traffic accidents is expected to reach a new record low in 2008. The Secretary said the new fatality data marks the first time the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is able to project fatality figures prior to the end of the calendar year.
Early estimates show that 31,110 people died on the nation’s roads from January through October, compared to 34,502 in 2007 during that same 10-month time period which is about a 10% reduction in fatal car, truck, railroad and airplane collisions.
This is good news to see fewer people killed from traffic crashes overall. Good driving habits, better maintained roads, enforcement of driving laws especially drunk driving (DUI) and reckless driving, safer vehicles, and education should help improve this transportation statistic each year.
Handling fatal car crashes, bicycle accidents, wrongful death from boating accidents, airplane crash, and collisions with interstate tractor trailers or semi-trucks, is what we do.
