A 62-year-old Washington man was struck and killed in an Auburn pedestrian accident on Thursday, December 26. Police believe that dark and wet roads were a major factor in the fatal crash.
The fatal pedestrian collision took place at around seven in the morning on Auburn Way South when the man attempted to cross the street outside of a marked crosswalk. The man, who has yet to be identified, died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. The Auburn Police Department reported that the dark, wet roads likely contributed to the crash. The driver, who was not injured in the accident, has not been charged or cited.
This deadly Washington pedestrian accident is an important reminder that a combination of two poor road conditions can be especially dangerous – while you may not think that driving at night is particularly hazardous or driving in the rain is particularly hazardous, driving on a rainy, dark night can significantly lower visibility. At the same time, while jaywalking is often not considered a serious violation, jaywalking on a dark and rainy night can have tragic consequences.
