On April 17, 2010, HA was riding a bicycle northbound on 148th Avenue NE in Bellevue, Washington. As the bicycle approached NE 10th Street, HA noticed a motor vehicle being driven by JY. Since the crosswalk was clear and JY had a stop sign, HA continued through the crosswalk. As soon as HA began to cross the crosswalk, JY began to make a right turn onto 148th Avenue NE, not leaving enough time for HA to brake. HA collided with the passenger side of JY's vehicle, landed on the hood of the car then fell off the driver's side and onto the pavement.
HA was transported by ambulance to a local emergency room. Injuries were to the right side of the body, including the elbow, knee and foot. HA also suffered injuries from the low to upper back. To continue treatment after being released from the hospital, HA was seen by an orthopedic surgeon and received physical therapy with massage treatment.
As a result of this accident, HA lost time from work and had property damage when the bicycle was mangled underneath JY's vehicle.
