We don't get hurricanes in the Pacific Northwest, but in case you encounter one in another part of the country, it is a good idea to know how to drive in one.

We don't get hurricanes in the Pacific Northwest, but it is always good to be prepared in any weather emergency.

The Weather Channel posted this Driving Safety Preparedness Checklist with tips on how to handle a hurricane if you encounter one while driving:

-If a hurricane is suspected before you begin your trip, have an evacuation plan set up. Be familiar with your destination and surrounding areas and research possible alternative routes if a hurricane strikes.
-Have up-to-date maps on hand of the area.
-Make sure your friends and family are aware of your route and destination.
-Before you leave, fill your gas tank. In the event of a power outage, gas stations will shut down.
