We don't get many tornado's in the Northwest, but it doesn't hurt to know what to do if you are driving and you encounter one.
We may not experience many tornado's in the Pacific Northwest, but it never hurts to know how to handle one while driving. If you encounter a tornado during a road trip or one of the few we may find in our area, refer to this Driving Safety and Preparedness Checklist provided by the Weather Channel:
-If you are thinking you can drive through the tornado, don't bother- you can't. -Leave your car immediately and find shelter underneath a concrete structure. -In the event there is no shelter, find the nearest and deepest ditch, using your hands to cover your head. Watch the water level in the ditch to avoid drowning. -Winds can be magnified under overpasses, so avoid them at all costs.
