Spotting Aggressive Dogs And Dangerous Animals | Preventing Washington Dog Bites

For a dog to attack, it either has to feel threatened, or it has to be innately aggressive. It follows that one of the best ways to avoid a dog bite or dog attack in Washington State is to be able to pinpoint aggressive dogs before they are close enough to harm you or your family.

Here are some of the most common signs of an aggressive dog:

· The dog has a history of aggression. Very simply, a dog that has bitten before is more likely to bite again. If you have seen the dog in question attack an animal, snarl, growl, or chase, there is a higher chance that it will do so again. In your neighborhood, take note of any dogs that get into fights, attack smaller animals, or threaten people.

· The dog is showing physical signs of aggression. What are the physical signs of aggression in a dog? Their ears are forward. They are standing tall. Their teeth are bared. The hair along their backs is standing on end. They growl and sometimes bark. They look for eye contact.

· Look at the breed. Although dog temperament depends largely on their training and their owner, dog bite statistics clearly show that some breeds of dog are more dangerous and aggressive than others. Look out for pit bulls and other terriers as well as wolf mixes, akitas, and Dobermans.

· Look at the dog. Male dogs tend to be more aggressive than female dogs, and un-neutered male dogs are the most aggressive of all.

What's the best thing to do when you have spotted an aggressive dog? Do not approach it or make eye contact. If the dog is loose, call you local animal control officials.
