Drunk Driving Killed 225 People In Washington State In 2008
We all know that drinking and driving kills – but do you have a good idea of just how many lives are lost due to drunk driving in Washington State each year? Here is the shocking statistic: in 2008, 225 people were killed because someone got behind the wheel of their car after drinking. That is 225 sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers across Washington who had their lives taken away too soon just because of an irresponsible – and illegal – decision.
To put it another way, 35 percent of all car accident fatalities across Washington State involved a person with a blood alcohol level about the legal limit of 0.08. All in all, 43 percent of all traffic accident fatalities involved alcohol in some way – that is four out of ten.
There tragic crashes are perhaps also the most preventable. If drivers simply followed the law and abstained from alcohol when driving, hundreds of lives could be saved in Washington each year.
