6 year old Virginia boy crashes family car to get to school

Posted on Jan 11, 2009

A 6-year-old Virginia boy got the keys to the family's Ford Taurus and tried to drive himself to school after missing the school bus.

He made at least two 90-degree turns, passed several cars and ran off the rural two-lane road several times before hitting an embankment and utility pole about a mile and a half from school.  Apparently, the boy learned how to drive by playing video games.

His parents, Jacqulyn Deana Waltman and David Eugene Dodson were each charged with child endangerment.  The boy and his 4-year-old brother were placed in protective custody.
