Ballard Student Dies In Fall From Roof Of Five-Story Building

A young man and recent graduate of Ballard High School in Washington was killed in a tragic fall while working on a college project.

According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 21-year-old Justin Amorratanasuchad of Ballard died while filming a school assignment on the roof of a building in Boston’s South End. The young man, who was a film production student at Emerson College, was using a camera while walking backward when he accidentally stepped off of the roof and fell five stories onto the pavement below.

Emergency responders pronounced the student dead at the scene of the accident. While the case is still under investigation, police believe that the fall was purely accidental. According to a resident who lives in the building where the accident took place, the roof is not supposed to be open to the public, but that the door’s lock had been taped over to allow access. Others say that it was common knowledge that people went up to the roof even though it was not officially allowed.

The college released a statement to the student body regarding the fatal fall accident and their condolences to his family and friends. Grief counselors provided support to students and faculty the week after the death was announced. Memorial services will be held both in Boston and in Ballard.
