According to the Journal of the San Juans, a toddler was bitten on the face by a dog last weekend as the girl’s parents sidewalk shopped in the downtown area of the town. The girl approached the dog, which might have felt defensive and vulnerable from being tethered to the bench.
The dog bite accident took place on the corner of First Street and Spring Street, after the three-year-old girl approached a dog that was tied to a bench outside of Joe Friday’s Shirt Co. on the San Juan Islands. The girl’s parents, who were vacationing from out of state, were looking at a rack of clothing a few feet away, while the dog’s owners, who are from Seattle, were inside of the shop while their dog was outside.
The girl is said to have a three-inch gash on her face from the dog bite. She was taken to Inter Island Medical Center for treatment for her wound by the San Juan EMS who reported to the scene of the dog attack.
The dog, a six-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, does not have an aggressive history and has not bitten either animal or human in the past. The dog’s owners are not sure what the fate of the dog is after the dog attack, though the man said that he would not have a dog that bites for a pet. The woman confirmed that the dog was up-to-date on his vaccines.
