A Washington State man is being charged with vehicular assault after he drove his car into three pedestrians while high on drugs in downtown Seattle this week.
According to the Seattle Times and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 39-year-old stand-up comedian Travis Lipski had been smoking a synthetic form of marijuana called K2 in the hours before the pedestrian accident took place. Witnesses say that Lipski was slumped over the steering wheel of his Subaru before it crashed, and Lipski believes that the drug caused him to black out while driving.
Seattle Poice say that Lipski was driving down Stewart Street on Thursday when he lost control of his car and slammed into a parked car on Second Avenue. The car then continued down the road and struck twp pedestrians, including 57-year-old Scott Braymer, his wife, Susan Braymer, who were doing some Christmas shopping. The vehicle then crashed into produce truck, pinning a 25-year-old pedestrian between the cars. Scott remains at Harborview Medical Center suffering from serious injuries including multiple broken bones, while Susan has been released from the hospital for her serious injuries. Scott’s son said that it will take “a long time” for his father to be able to walk again. The young woman who was also hit has also been released by the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Lipski has admitted to taking drugs before driving and told reporters, simply, that it was an accident. He has posted bail and is out of jail awaiting trial. He moved to Seattle less than a year ago.
