One woman is dead and two other people are being treated for serious injuries after a three-vehicle accident at an intersection in Kennewick.
According to the Washington State Patrol, 51-year-old Karen Arbogast, an emergency medical technician, was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Highway 395 and Hildebrand Avenue on Tuesday, October 19, just after four in the afternoon. When the light turned green, Arbogast continued through, only to be side swiped by an oncoming FedEx truck that was running the red light. The truck hit the car and then the two vehicles hit a third car in the intersection.
The FedEx driver, 48-year-old Timothy Rieksts, as well as the driver of the third car, 53-year-old Alex Teimouri were injured in the crash. Arbogast was rushed to Kennewick General Hospital and then transferred to Harborview Medical Center for treatment for a serious head injury. She died from her injuries nine days later.
An organ donor, Arbogast was able to save other lives as she lost her own. Arbogast leaves behind a husband, also an EMT, as well as children and grandchildren.
The fatal Washington truck accident is still under investigation and Washington State Patrol officers are still seeking any witnesses of the incident. Anyone who has information about the accident should call Detective Sgt. Jerry Cooper at 360-805-1192 or Detective Curt Ladines 360-805-1160.
The driver of the delivery truck has not yet been charged or cited for running the red light.
