A Kirkland man biking home from work early on Thursday morning, December 8, was struck and killed by a man driving an SUV on Northeast 124th Street in the Totem Lake area. Police believe that alcohol was a factor in the fatal Kirkland bike accident.
Kirkland Police report that bicyclist Bradley Nakatani, 36, was turning right on to Slater Avenue Northeast when he was struck by a man driving an SUV. The SUV driver was identified as 26-year-old Nathan Jeremie Godwin of Redmond, Washington. Emergency crews arrived on the scene quickly, but Nakatani was pronounced dead at the scene of the bicycle accident and responders believe he died instantly in the collision.
Nakatani was wearing a helmet, reflectors, and lights, police said. Godwin was taken to Evergreen Hospital to undergo a blood alcohol content test and then to the Kirkland Police Station. He has been arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide – and authorities say that they are familiar with the subject from prior incidents.
The Kirkland cyclist death is still under investigation. The intersection where the fatal collision occurred was closed to traffic for several hours as police collected evidence.
Seattle Bicycle accident attorney Andrew Kim sends his thoughts to the friends, family, and loved ones of the cyclist who lost his life.
