Three people were injured and one man was arrested after a Seattle bus accident in the University district on Friday, January 20. Seattle Police believe that the crash took place after a disgruntled passenger lacking bus fare punched the bus driver in the face, causing him to lose control of the vehicle in wintery conditions.
According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, a 40-year-old man trying to get to work on time was a dollar short of the proper bus fare and assaulted the bus driver as he was operating the public transportation vehicle. The driver lost control on the icy and snowy Seattle roads and ran into a tree in the median of 15th Avenue Northeast.
The driver was taken to a nearby hospital suffering from bruising and possibly a fractured leg. The two other passengers on the bus were treated for minor injuries at the scene of the accident. The man who allegedly assaulted the bus driver was taken into custody and charged.
Seattle Police are still investigating the incident and are reviewing the surveillance tape from the video camera installed in the bus. They stated that the bus was not equipped with snow chains, as some buses had been during the wintery week.
