A Saturday afternoon motorcycle accident on Interstate 90 in Seattle left one rider dead and the passenger seriously injured. Police say that this fatal Washington motorcycle crash may be the beginning of a rise in motorbike crashes that comes with warmer weather and higher gas prices.
According to the Washington State Patrol and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, a motorcycle rider crashed on the Fourth Avenue ramp on I-90 East. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while the passenger was taken by ambulance to a Seattle hospital with life-threatening injuries. Neither motorcycle accident victim has been named and police are not yet sure what caused the accident to take place.
Motorcycle accidents on off-ramps and on-ramps are common, as motorcycle riders sometimes fail to properly control their speed or negotiate the sharp curve of the ramp.
Just says before, Washington police had been warning the public that warmer, sunnier days mean that more motorcycles are on the road, and that higher gas prices encourage drivers to choose riding their motorcycle over taking out their inefficient larger vehicles. The Washington State Patrol has warned that they will be looking to cite both motorcycles who aren’t following the law and cars and trucks who are not properly sharing the road with bikes.
