The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a child product recall on “Nap Nanny” baby recliners after one infant death was reported and 22 other injuries and incident were reported in the last year. The foam recliners are meant to allow babies to nap comfortably while strapped in with a three-point harness. They are not meant to be used in cribs, according to the manufacturer.
The infant who died while using the Nap Nanny was found hanging from the safety harness between the side of the nap nanny and the side of its crib. The baby was strapped in correctly at the time of the deadly child accident.
The maker of the Nap Nanny says that only the first generation of the product has resulted in child deaths and injuries, mostly in babies under five months of age. The first generation of the infant product does not have D-rings holding the harness to the base. However, Baby Matters asks the owners of all Nap Nannies to visit their website to watch a safety video regarding how to properly use the Nap Nanny and its harnesses to prevent accidents.
The defective Nap Nannies have been sold since January 2009 nationwide for approximately $130. Those who own the recalled infant product should stop using it immediately and visit Baby Matters to receive a coupon for a free replacement Nap Nanny (with free shipping).
For more information on the child product recall, contact Baby Matters by calling (888) 240-4282 toll free during business hours or by visiting their website.
