Seattle Construction Worker Suffers Injuries In Fall

The Seattle Times reports that a construction worker was injured in a fall from a five-story building on Elliott Avenue in Seattle, Washington on Tuesday, March 24. The 91 call was taken by emergency workers at about a quarter to eleven in the morning, with Seattle Police shutting down traffic during the rescue operation.

The worker fell approximately 20 feet off of the building. The building under construction is located at 635 Elliott Ave. West.

The worker was rescued by Seattle firefighters who stabilized the man and moved him to safety with a basket, ropes and ladder. The worker, who was not identified, is said to be in his thirties.

A fire department spokesperson, Helen Fitzpatrick, reported that the man was in stable condition after the fall and was not seriously hurt by the construction site fall. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. At the time of his rescue, the Seattle Fire Department described the injured construction site worker was "conscious and alert."

During the rescue operation, the southbound lanes of Elliott Ave. were closed to traffic. However, the road was re-opened after the injured worker was removed, improving traffic flow.
