A man with a laundry list of previous charges has been charged with a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident in Seattle. The pedestrian accident took the life of 91-year-old Marie Fite, a Seattle Highlander neighborhood favorite for the last 30 years. The accident took place near the intersection of Harvard Avenue East and East Thomas Street
According to witnesses, the woman was walking near her home in the Highlander condos when a car backed over the women in order to park in a parking space. The man continued to park after striking her body and then tried to move her body from beneath his car before leaving the scene of the Washington car accident. Seattle Police say that 34-year-old Shawn Shipp had a blood alcohol level of 0.18 hours after the accident took place, and the man also admitted to taking a prescription strength pain killer before driving. Police arrested him when he returned to the scene of the accident after emergency workers arrived.
Fite was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where she died that night of her pedestrian accident injuries. Her next of kin have been contacted.
Shipp has been in trouble with the law in Washington before. In recent years, he has had convictions for first-degree child rape, failing to register as a sex offender, assault, motor-vehicle theft, drug possession, vehicle prowling, drunken driving, driving with a suspended license and speeding, according to the Seattle Times and the King County Prosecutor's Office.
