A Seattle widower filed a personal injury and wrongful death lawsuit against the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) following a dump truck accident that killed his wife and seriously injured his two children.
In August, Dale Satorius was driving a rental car on his way to visit his parents when a dump truck attempted an illegal u-turn on the highway. The state vehicle slammed into the passenger side of the family’s car, killing Hui Satorius and injuring the couple’s two children. Their five-year-old daughter suffered a torn scalp and fractured skull, while their seven-year-old son and Dale suffered minor injuries.
Although the truck’s driver, Parke Hoover, took full responsibility for the accident and told authorities he was at fault, he only received a $111 traffic ticket regarding the crash. Dale Satorius believes that the trucker was given a slap on the wrist and that the trucker should have been charged with reckless driving, involuntary manslaughter, or homicide by vehicle. However, under the law, Hoover cannot be further charged in relation to the crash after receiving a ticket.
Satorius has filed a civil lawsuit against PennDOT claiming negligence. He is seeking unspecified damages for medical bills, legal costs, and pain and suffering.
