Shoes and clothing littered the road and sidewalk in Seattle early on the morning of Saturday, December 10, 2011 after an allegedly drunk driver plowed into a group of pedestrians standing outside of a Fremont nightclub. Currently, one person is at Harborview Medical Center in critical condition, another is in serious condition and three others are in stable condition.
According to the Seattle Police Department, the crowd was standing next to 36th Street just after two in the morning following the close of the venue, Nectar. Suddenly a man in his mid-20s driving a sedan plowed into the group. Five people were seriously hurt and four people were left lying on the ground in the wake of the collision. One young man was unresponsive after being struck.
Police say that the crowd, which included some EMTs, jumped into action and helped stabilize the accident victims until ambulances arrived.
The driver was evaluated by a drug recognition expert and subsequently charged with a DUI and vehicular assault. He is being held at King County Jail. Police believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
Seattle pedestrian accident attorney Andrew Kim sends his sincere wishes of full, quick recoveries to the five injured Washington residents.
