A father was killed in a five-vehicle accident in Ballard, Washington, after a speeding car slammed into his sedan. His five-year-old daughter was pulled to safety by a Good Samaritan and local business owner.

Sub Pop Exec Dies In Fiery Ballard Car Accident

Andrew Kotowicz, the head of marketing for Seattle indie rock label Sub Pop, has died from injuries he sustain in a five-car accident on October 21 on 15th Avenue in Ballard, Washington. Known to his friends as Andy, the 37-year old man was taking his four-year-old daughter Anna home from daycare at the time of the fatal car accident.

According to the Seattle Times, Kotowicz was on 15th Avenue late on Thursday afternoon when a speeding car slammed into his vehicle on Northwest 75th Street. The collision caused a chain-reaction crash that involved three other cars. Shortly before hitting Kotowicz, the speeding car struck another vehicle at the intersection of Northwest 70th Street.

The collision caused Kotowicz’s car to catch fire and also trapped the man and his daughter in the vehicle. A local businessman pulled the little girl out of harms way, but could not free her father. Rescue workers had to free the man, who was then rushed to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. He died three days later after his family decided to discontinue life support. Kotowicz, an organ donor, has given his kidneys to those in need of transplants.

Several witnesses reported that the driver of the speeding car seemed to be suffering a seizure in the minutes after the car accident, though it is unclear whether his medical emergency was the cause of the car crash.

A memorial service was held for Andy in Seattle on November 1.
