Twin Sisters Die in Washington Car Accident

Posted on Dec 13, 2013

Halloween turned tragic in Oak Harbor, Washington, this year when 17-year-old twins Janesah and Janeah Goheen were killed in a car accident. Police believe that the driver who struck their auto was operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

According to the Seattle Times and the Daily News, the Goheen twins and a friend, 18-year-old Alysha Pickler, were traveling to a haunted house on October 31 at the time the accident occurred. While on Highway 20, 52-year-old Ira Blackstock “accelerated rapidly” into an intersection, colliding with the teens’ car. Blackstock’s car had poorly maintained tred, which caused the car to lose traction on the wet roads and fishtail into the teens’ vehicle.

Passenger Janeah Goheen died at the scene of the Washington State car accident, while Pickler suffered a concussion in the crash. Driver Janesah Goheen was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. She passed away more than a week later, surrounded by friends and family.

Blackstock is in Skagit County Jail. Although a toxicology report won’t be available for some time, Washington State Police say that he showed signs of impairment at the accident site and that an Alcoholics Anonymous pamphlet was found on the back seat of his car. He is being charged with vehicular assault and vehicular homicide. Blackstock was not seriously injured in the car accident, which took place just after 5 p.m.

The Oak Harbor community celebrated the twins’ lives in a memorial service on Saturday, November 16. Friends and family shared stories, sang, and prayed.

The twins’ older sister, 24-year-old Jessica, died in a car accident in 2008.

The staff and attorneys at the Andrew Kim Law Firm send their deep condolences to the Goheen family and friends of the young women lost in this tragic event.
