Two people suffered injuries after a boat that they were riding in became wedged under the Highway 520 floating bridge in Seattle. Currently, Washington Police are unsure of how the boating accident took place.
According to local new sources, a man and a woman in their 30s were aboard a 35-foot boat in Lake Washington when their vessel became stuck underneath the bridge. The woman was trapped on the upper portion of the boat while the man was trapped down below. One news source reported that one person had been seriously injured in the boat accident and one person suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another news source reported that both the man and the woman suffered minor injuries. The couple was brought to a local hospital for treatment, the University of Washington Medical Center.
The boat crash took place at the Montlake Boulevard exit a few minutes after eight in the evening. Police are unsure if the boat was speeding at the time of the accident.
One lane of the Evergreen floating bridge was closed as police worked to cut open the motorboat and extract the male from inside the watercraft, while all lanes of traffic slowed as motorists checked out the accident. The bridge only suffered minor damage from the collision.
The boat accident is being investigated by the Seattle Harbor Patrol, Washington State Patrol, and the Washington Department of Transportation.
