A Clinton, Washington, dog owner is facing two citations after two teenaged girls were attacked by his dogs while walking in their neighborhood. While the owner said that his dogs were fenced in by an invisible fence system, local officials said that electronic fences are fallible and that the man is still responsible for keeping his dogs leashed or fenced at all times.
The dog bite incident occurred when 15-year-old Sarah Young of Clinton and a friend visiting from Seattle were walking to Young’s home when they were approached by two mixed-breed dogs, Rocky and Tyson. The friend was bitten on the calf, though the dogs then turned their attention on Young, biting her on the hand. The dogs only stopped their attack when Young’s dog, a 4-year-old lab, ran at the aggressive dogs and scared them away.
Sarah was treated at Whidbey General Hospital in Coupeville for puncture wounds on her hands, while her friend was treated at a Seattle hospital.
The dogs, who were current on their licenses and shots, are being watched closely in their owner’s home while they construct a fence for the animals to prevent more escapes. Some in Clinton wonder if the State and federal dog bite laws are strict enough, as the dangerous dogs will continue to live in the neighborhood.
A second dog bite incident took place in Clinton that day, when a man was bitten by a chow mix while walking on a local sidewalk.
