Two Washington State Pedestrian Accidents Leave Two Critical

Posted on Aug 19, 2010

Two serious pedestrian accidents took place this week in Washington State – one in Seattle and one in Bellevue.

The first pedestrian accident occurred in Seattle, as a mother and her two children were using a crosswalk on Campus Drive in Federal Way when a car struck the 5-year-old and the 2-year-old, who was riding in a stroller. The mother was not injured in the car crash and the younger child suffered only minor injuries. However, the 5-year-old child was airlifted from the scene of the accident by helicopter and brought to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. The pedestrian accident is under investigation and police are unsure of why the car might have hit the family.

In Bellevue, Washington, a 70-year-old woman was waiting for a city bus on Friday afternoon when a car crossed the median, jumped the curb, and struck her. Bellevue Police say that the driver of the car, a 53-year-old man of Everett, the hit the woman had blacked out, but could not yet confirmed that the blackout was due to a medical condition, drugs, or alcohol. They also did not know if speed was a factor in the pedestrian accident. The accident took place at in the 4700 block of 119th Avenue SE.

The woman was carried by the car for 50 yards and was seriously injured. EMS rushed her to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

Bellevue Police are looking for eyewitness accounts of the pedestrian accident and anyone who saw the crash or has information should call their local authorities immediately.
