Two Weekend Car Accidents Leave Two Washington Residents Seriously Injured

Two Washington State residents were seriously injured in car accidents this weekend and airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center for treatment. Both car crashes were believed to be caused in part by high speeds.
The first car wreck took place in Oak Harbor on Sunday morning when driver Kathryn Simpson failed to negotiate a curve on Highway and roller her vehicle several times. The car came to a rest upright and emergency responders transported her to a local hospital before sending her to Seattle by helicopter. Washington State Patrol believes that the accident, which took place at four in the morning between Zylstra and Madrona Way, was caused by a combination of speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol. She continues to be treated for her injuries in the intensive care unit.
In the second accident, a 19-year-old Waterville man was critically injured when he lost control of the car he was driving and slammed into a tree in Ellensburg, Washington, on Highway 97. The man, identified as David Miranda, was taken to the hospital suffering from internal injuries and a possible head injury. The car accident, which took place in the late evening, could have involved speeding.
