A Washington State personal injury attorney uncovered a shocking video of Seattle Police officers mocking a seriously injured jogger after a commercial truck accident in October. The lawyer was hired by the jogger to investigate the cause of the collision, which left him with a head injury, a broken back, and multiple broken ribs.
According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, two officers mocked the West Seattle man for jogging to work and getting into an accident. In the fifteen minutes of video, the two men also mock the truck driver that struck the pedestrian, making light of his accent and his response to the crash. The Washington Department of Transportation urged commuters, especially those coming in from West Seattle, to seek alternate means of transportation during a construction project on the Alaskan Way aqueduct.
The man who was struck by the truck, Tim Nelson, was outraged by the video. He stated that he was jogging to work on the advice of the city and that he believes the behavior of the police was absolutely inappropriate. He has asked for an apology – either from the officers themselves, the Seattle Police Department, or the city itself.
This incident follows a federal investigation into Seattle’s discriminatory policing and excessive force.
