A pit bull was fatally shot by Sheriff’s deputies last week after authorities suspected that the aggressive animal was responsible for an almost-deadly dog attack in Wapato, Washington that involved a mute man.
According to news reports, 58-year-old David Purdy someone drove his car to a friend’s house with life-threatening dog bites in order to seek medical help. He was found in the driveway of an Upper Bank Road residence by his friend at roughly 7 PM on Sunday. Since the man is mute from a throat cancer surgery, he was not able to relate the story of the dog attack to anyone.
Purdy was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after initially being taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Although he was initially listed in critical condition, a hospital spokesman told reports that he was upgraded to satisfactory condition on Monday afternoon.
According to chief of detectives Stew Graham, Washington deputies went to a nearby residence on North Track Road that they believed to be the site of the dog bite incident – when authorities knocked on the door, a deputy was forced to shoot an aggressive pit bull that charged the door. The dog was killed. In the following days, the dog attack will be further investigated as the sheriff’s office tries to locate the owner of the vicious dog. Purdy will also be further questioned as he recovers from his serious dog bite injuries.
