After a Washington State Patrolman was injured in a car accident while on duty, many are asking what caused the crash and how a group of motorcycle riders was involved in the incident. While some witnesses have confirmed that many of the bikers stopped to taunt the police officer after the crash took place, others say that the police officer looked like he was swerving to hit the bikers in the moments before the accident.
On the day of the Seattle car accident, witnesses say that there was a group of 70 to 100 bikers on I-5, headed to Highway 599 near Tukwila when a police officer attempted to create a speed barrier in front of the bikers. Several witnesses confirmed that a number of the bikes were speeding. When some of the bikers tried to pass the patrol car – going far beyond the speed limit, the cruiser changed lanes in an attempt to stop them.
The police officer, Brian Salyer, lost control of his car and left the road, rolling over several times. One witness, 32-year-old Seattle resident Franscisco Sanchez, said that while some bikers showed concern and pulled over, others cheered, taunted, and waved at the downed officer.
While investigators are somewhat sure that Salyer would not have swerved to hit a bike, it is possible that some bikers saw the speed barrier and rolling slowdown as an aggressive action. The bikers who stopped to taunt the police officer could face misdemeanor charges for failing to call for help.
