Washington Teen Killed in South Park Car Accident

Posted on Dec 22, 2012

Five South Park teens were involved in a deadly Washington car accident in November that took place when the teen driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve. Two people died in the crash, which local police say may have been caused by speeding or racing. The accident occurred on 8th Avenue South in South Park, when the car left the road and struck a telephone pole.

According to Seattle news sources, the driver of the vehicle, 16-year-old Luis Martinez Herrera, as well as eighth-grader Luciana “Lucie” Hernandez, a passenger, were killed in the accident. Ninth-grader Karla Hernandez, Lucie’s older sister, was seriously injured in the accident and remains in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center. Herrera was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while Lucie Hernandez and four others were rushed to Harborview. She died of her car accident injuries soon after. Two other teens were hospitalized with injuries related to the crash, though the extent of their injuries and their current conditions are unclear.

Seattle Police say that the accident is under investigation and that one person had come forward and stated that the crash was caused by speeding and racing.

Some of the children involved in the crash were students at Denny International Middle School, while others attended Chief Sealth International High School. Both schools are taking steps to help other children cope with the accident and losses.

Seattle car accident attorney Andrew Kim sends his deepest condolences to the accident victims, their families, their classmates, and their loved ones in this time of tragedy.
